Psychotherapy for Creative Blocks
- At its root, writer's block (and similar impediments in other creative fields) arises from the temporary inability to think. Psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapy is about uncovering what has been called "the unthought known"—unearthing what has previously been too terrifying to consider.As a writer myself, I understand that unconscious internal prohibitions against knowing are what cause the block. Psychotherapy is one way many writers and other creative people have chosen to address the block, often with great reward (see New Yorker, A Cure for Blocked Screenwriters).
